Addiction Therapists Licensed in Texas

This page is for Texas adults and caregivers looking for therapists who treat addiction and related concerns. Use it to compare providers by treatment approach, specialties (such as substance use, co-occurring mental health conditions, relapse prevention, or family support), and therapy formats. All therapists listed are licensed in Texas, and a Texas license covers the whole state, so your city does not limit who you can choose. Read provider profiles to see clinical focus, experience with specific substances or behaviors, and how they describe their therapeutic style before contacting anyone.

About addiction therapy in Texas

Everyone listed on this page holds a license to practice in Texas and works online. That matters more than it sounds: a license is issued by the state, not by a city, so a therapist is available to anyone in Texas regardless of how far away they are. Someone outside a major metro can work with a therapist whose books would otherwise be out of reach.

1,011 therapists match this page, all of whom name addiction among the areas they work with. Fifteen are shown above. The list changes between pages, so it is worth looking at more than one if none of these feels like a fit.

What to compare

  • Credential. LPC, LCSW and LMFT are different training routes into licensed therapy work. None outranks the others; they shape emphasis rather than quality.
  • Years in practice. Shown for every therapist here. More experience is not automatically better, but it is a fair proxy for how much of a given problem someone has seen.
  • What else they work with. A therapist whose other focus areas overlap with your situation is usually a better starting point than one whose listed areas stop at the single thing you searched for.
  • Approach. CBT, psychodynamic, solution-focused and the rest describe how sessions tend to run. If you have tried therapy before and it did not suit you, changing approach is often more useful than changing therapist.
  • Language. Shown where a therapist offers sessions in more than English.

How online sessions work

Sessions run by video or by messaging, arranged through our partner platform rather than booked directly with the therapist. There is no travel and no waiting room, which for most people is the difference between starting and not starting. Pricing is set by the platform and shown before you commit.

Common questions

How do I know which therapist’s approach fits addiction treatment needs?

Look for descriptions of treatment models like cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, contingency management, or medication-assisted treatment coordination. Also compare experience with relapse prevention, cravings management, and co-occurring disorders. Read how therapists describe session focus and goals to see which approach matches your priorities.

Can a therapist help with both substance use and mental health issues at the same time?

Many therapists list treatment for co-occurring disorders on their profiles. Ask about integrated care approaches that address both substance use and mood, anxiety, trauma, or other mental health concerns. Coordinated treatment tends to include assessment, concurrent therapy plans, and referrals for needed medical or psychiatric services.

What should I check if I want help specifically for opioid or alcohol use?

Search profiles for experience with the substance you’re concerned about and for mentions of relapse prevention, withdrawal planning collaboration, and familiarity with medication-assisted treatment options. Note whether a therapist works with medical providers or community programs when higher levels of care are needed.
